Senya's Privacy Policy
1 - Introduction
At Senya, we provide a technology platform that connects schools and those in the community who work as substitute teachers. In this Privacy Policy, we share what information we receive from Senya users and how we use it to connect schools with substitute teachers and continue to improve our services.
2 - Scope of this Privacy Policy
Senya (“Senya,” “we,” “our,” and/or “us”) values the privacy of individuals who use our application, websites, and related services (collectively, the “Senya Platform ”). This privacy policy (the “Privacy Policy”) explains how we collect, use, and share information from Senya users (“Users”), comprised of both school users (“Schools”) and substitute teachers (including substitute teacher applicants) (“Substitutes”). Beyond the Privacy Policy, use of the Senya Platform is also subject to the Terms & Conditions of the Senya application.
3 - Information We Collect
Information Users Provide to Us
Registration Information.
When Users sign up for a Senya account, they give their name, email address, and phone number. If Users decide to sign up for Senya using their Facebook account, we also get basic information from their Facebook profile such as name, gender, profile photo, and Facebook friends.
User Profile Information.
When joining the Senya Platform, Users create a Senya Profile to share basic information about themselves, including personal information, settings, and preferences. A User's name and profile picture is always part of the profile.
Payment Method.
When Users add a credit card or payment method to their Senya account, a third party that handles payments receives the card information. To keep financial data secure, we do not store full credit card information on our servers.
Communications.
When Users contact us directly, we may receive additional information. For example, when contacting our Customer Service team, we receive name, email address, phone number, the contents of a message or attachments that are sent to us, and other information Users choose to provide.
Substitute Application Information.
When joining the Senya Platform, in addition to the basic registration information, Users provide their date of birth, physical address, Social Security number, teacher certification or licensure information, and in some jurisdictions, additional business license or permitting information. We share this information with partner school districts or with state agencies that run background checks on Substitutes in accordance with state and federal law.
Payment Information.
In order to facilitate the payment process for Substitutes, Senya keeps payment information provided by Substitutes, including bank routing numbers, tax information, and any other payment information provided by Substitutes.
Information We Collect When Using the Senya Platform
Location Information.
Senya is all about connecting Substitutes and Schools. To do this, we need to know location information. When Users open Senya on a mobile device, we receive location information. We may also collect the precise location of a device when the app is running in the foreground or background. If certain locations are labeled, such as “home” and “work,” we receive that information as well.
Location information is necessary for matching Schools with nearby Substitutes and suggesting opportunities based on distance. If permission is given through device settings or the Senya Platform, we may collect location information while the app is off to identify promotions or service updates in a User's area.
Device Information
Senya receives information from Users’ devices, including IP address, web browser type, mobile operating system version, phone carrier and manufacturer, application installations, device identifiers, mobile advertising identifiers, push notification tokens, and, if registered with a Facebook account, the Facebook identifier.
Usage Information.
To help us understand how Users use the Senya Platform and to help us improve it, we automatically receive information about interactions with the Senya Platform, such as the pages or other content Users view, User actions within the Senya app, and the dates and times of User visits.
Call and Text Information.
We work with a third party partner to facilitate phone calls and text messages between Users who have been connected for a service. We receive information about these communications including the date and time of the call or SMS message, the parties’ phone numbers, and the content of any SMS messages. For security purposes, we may also monitor and/or record the contents of phone calls made on the Senya Platform, such as those between Users. Users are given notice that the call may be recorded, and by proceeding, Users agree to allow Senya to monitor and/or record the call.
User Feedback.
At Senya, we want to make sure Users always enjoy great services. Users may rate and review each other at the end of every service. We receive information about ratings and reviews, and as is explained below, give Schools information about Substitutes' ratings and reviews and vice versa.
Address Book Contacts.
If Users permit Senya to access the address book on their device through the permission system used by their mobile platform, we may access and store names and contact information from Users address books to facilitate invitations and social interactions that Users initiate through our Platform and for other purposes described in this privacy policy or at the time of consent or collection.
Information from Cookies and Similar Technologies.
We collect information through the use of “cookies”, tracking pixels, and similar technologies to understand how Users navigate through the Senya Platform, how Users interact with Senya content, and to save User preferences. Cookies are small text files that web servers place on a device; they are designed to store basic information and to help websites and apps recognize the User's browser. We may use both session cookies and persistent cookies. A session cookie disappears after the browser is closed. A persistent cookie remains after the browser is closed and may be accessed every time Users use the Senya Platform. Users may consult their web browser(s) to modify their cookie settings. Please note that deleting or choosing not to accept cookies may disrupt certain features on the Senya Platform.
Information We Collect from Third Parties
Third Party Services.
When Users register for a Senya account or otherwise link their Senya account with a third party’s service (such as Facebook), we may receive the same type of information we collect from Users (described above) directly from those services.
Third Party Partners.
We may receive additional information about Users, such as demographic data, payment information, or fraud detection information, from third party partners.
Enterprise Programs.
If a User's school, university, or organization participates in one of our enterprise programs, we may receive information from the participating organization.
Background Information on Substitutes.
Senya works with third party partners to perform criminal background checks on Substitutes, and we receive information from them about a substitute teacher candidate's criminal history or eligibility determination to work in schools, according to state and federal law.
4 - How We Use the Information We Collect
We use the information we collect from all Users to:
- Connect Schools with Substitutes;
- Provide, improve, expand, and promote the Senya Platform;
- Analyze how Senya Users interact with the Senya Platform;
- Communicate with Users, either directly or through one of our partners, including for marketing and promotional purposes;
- Personalize the Senya experience for Users and Users' friends and contacts;
- Send text messages and push notifications;
- Facilitate transactions and payments;
- Provide Users with customer support;
- Find and prevent fraud; and
- Respond to trust and safety issues that may arise, including safety or criminal incidents, disputes between Users, and requests from government authorities.
Additionally, we use the information we collect from Substitutes for the following purposes related to taking work opportunities through the Senya Platform:
- Sending emails and text messages to Substitutes who have started the onboarding process regarding the status of their onboarding;
- Determining a candidate's eligibility to substitute teach through the Senya Platform;
- and notifying Substitutes about service demand, pricing, and service updates.
5 - How We Share the Information We Collect
Sharing Between Users
Sharing between Users. Users that have been matched for a service are able to see basic information about each other, such as names, photo, ratings, and any information they have added to their Profiles. Users who connect their Senya accounts to Facebook will see their mutual Facebook friends during the service. Substitutes see the location that the Servicer has provided. Schools' ratings of Substitutes are shared with Substitutes on an ongoing basis.
Sharing between Schools and Substitutes. Schools that have been matched with Substitutes see Users' names, photos, and any information added to their Profiles.
Sharing Between Senya and Third Parties
API and Integration Partners.
If Users connect to the Senya Platform through an integration with a third party service, we may share information about Users' use of the Senya Platform with that third party. We may share information with our third party partners in order to receive additional information about Users. We may also share User information with third party partners to create offers that may be of interest to Users.
Third Party Services.
The Senya Platform may allow Users to connect with other websites, products, or services that we don’t have control over. If using these services, we provide the third party with information about Users to allow them to provide the service to Users. We are not involved in the privacy practices of these third parties, and we encourage Users to read their privacy policies before deciding whether to use their services.
Service Providers.
We work with third party service providers to perform services on our behalf, and we may share User information with such service providers to help us provide the Senya Platform, including all of the things described in Section 3 above.
Enterprise Partners.
If Users participate in an enterprise program and charge a service to the organization’s billing method or credits, we provide the organization’s account holder with information about Users use of the Senya Platform, including service details such as date, time, and charge. If Users integrate an account with an expense platform, we share the service details to Users' expense accounts.
Other Sharing.
We may share Users' information with third parties in the following cases:
While negotiating or in relation to a change of corporate control such as a restructuring, merger or sale of our assets;
If a government authority requests information and we think disclosure is required or appropriate in order to comply with laws, regulations, or a legal process; With law enforcement officials, government authorities, or third parties if we think doing so is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Schools, the Senya community, Senya, or the public; To comply with a legal requirement or process, including but not limited to, civil and criminal subpoenas, court orders or other compulsory disclosures.
User's Choices
Email Subscriptions.
Users can unsubscribe from our commercial or promotional emails but we still send transactional and relational emails about account use of the Senya Platform.
Text Messages.
Users can opt out of receiving commercial or promotional text messages by texting the word END or STOP from the mobile device receiving the messages. Opting out of receiving texts may impact use of the Senya Platform. To re-enable texts, Users can text START in response to an unsubscribe confirmation SMS.
Push Notifications.
Users can opt out of receiving push notifications through their device settings. Please note that opting out of receiving push notifications may impact use of the Senya Platform.
Profile Information.
Users' names, rating, profile photos, and certificate or licensure information are always shared with Substitutes and Schools. Users can delete their account to stop that information from being viewed by other Users.
Location Information.
Users can prevent their device from sharing location information at any time through their Device’s operating system settings; however, this may limit functionality or features of the Senya Platform for Users.
Facebook Friends.
Users control whether to enable or disable the Facebook mutual friends feature through their profile settings.
Editing and Accessing User Information.
Users can review and edit certain account information by logging in to their account settings and profile. Users may terminate their Senya account by going to their profile and clicking to delete their account. After deleting, we may retain information from User's account for a certain period of time and disclose it in a manner consistent with our practices under this Privacy Policy. This may include information from User's account to collect any fees owed, resolve disputes, troubleshoot problems, analyze usage of the Senya Platform, assist with any investigations, prevent fraud, enforce our Terms & Conditions, or take other actions as required or permitted by law.
Other Information
Data Security.
We are committed to protecting the data of the Senya community. Even though we take reasonable precautions to protect data, no security measures can be 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee the security of Users' data.
Children’s Privacy.
Senya is not directed to children, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we find out that a child under 13 has given us personal information, we delete that information. If a User believes that a child under the age of 13 has given us personal information, please contact us directly.
Changes to Our Privacy Policy.
We may make changes to this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make any material changes, we inform Users through the Senya Platform, by email, or other communication. We encourage Users to read this Privacy Policy periodically to stay up-to-date about our privacy practices. By using the Senya Platform, Users agree to this Privacy Policy and any updates made.
